Life with a chronic condition can be overwhelming—but you can rely on a few coping techniques to ease the burden. Take time to practice self-care with these five tips to fight the blues and improve your mood.
Prioritize YOU
Make yourself a priority by listening to what your body tells you. Putting too much pressure on yourself can cause unnecessary stress and feelings of hopelessness. Learn to say “no” when you’re not feeling up to something.
Find Your Value
Look beyond your limitations and zero in on what makes you unique. Are you quick with a joke? A strong listener? A loyal friend? Focusing on your best qualities will help you to remember your confidence when you’re feeling down.
Raise Awareness
Be an advocate for the chronic condition that affects you and your family. Campaigning for change creates opportunities to spark conversations, expand your social circle, and make meaningful connections with people who share your struggle.
Self-Soothe
You take care of your body with infusion therapy, eat the right foods, and take the proper medications. This keeps your body healthy—but what about your mind? Tune in to what makes you happy. Do you love art? Are you an animal lover? Make your passions a priority!
Pace Yourself
You are not a machine. You’re a living, breathing human who can only handle so much. Taking on too much to please others can quickly lead to burnout. Pace yourself and remember: Your thoughts and feelings matter!
Learn More
It’s ok to feel overwhelmed and anxious, but if it persists, it may be time to speak with a clinician or someone close to you.
